How to Draw Bubble Letters

Have you ever seen bubble letters and wanted to draw them yourself, but didn't know how? By using the following method, you can learn to draw bubble letters and reflect your own style. This is a great way to learn letters and it is also excellent for enhancing posters, fliers, brochures and school projects.

Steps

  1. Choose one letter from the alphabet to draw. Start simply with a capital letter, such as "L."
  2. Draw the letter lightly with a pencil, and make the letter about 1 - 2 inches (2.5 - 5 cm) tall.

  3. Draw an outline around the letter (lightly with a pencil), and make sure to do two things:

    • Make the outline with no sharp corners or angles;
    • Make the outline the same distance from the actual letter, all the way around the shape of the letter.

  4. Keep making outlines until your bubble letter is as big as you want it to be.

Tips

  • Try to keep the distance between outlines at about a quarter of an inch (half a centimeter), at least until you get used to making accurate outlines.
  • Bubble letters typically overlap within a word. After you draw the first letter of the word, draw the next one slightly behind it, and the next one behind that, etc.
  • As you get better, you'll be able to make bubble letters without the outlines.
  • Bubble letters look great on posters, but also brighten up the graphic look of many other artwork. For example, a smaller bubble letter sign could be just the thing your math notes need to make the beginning of a new unit stand out, or a diary or class schedule.
  • If you think of how the letter will look before you draw it, you may draw the letter a little better.

Warnings

  • Be extra careful with Rs,Ds,As and Bs, as they can be tricky.
