How to Finger Weave
Finger weaving is a great way to spend your free time when you need something fun to do. And when you're finished (if ever you are) you'll have a beautiful rope of yarn that you can use for lots of different things, such as keyring rope, hair decorations, a belt, or bag handles.
Steps
- Take the ball of yarn and tie a loop around your thumb.
- Weave the yarn in and out of your fingers (but not your thumb) until you have two lines of yarn showing on your fingers on both sides.
- Take the bottom "line" of yarn on your index finger and pull it over your finger, taking it up above the first line. That loop of yarn should now be on the back of your hand. Repeat with all your fingers.
- When there is only one line left on your fingers, weave the yarn in and out of your fingers again until there is another line. Continue for as long as you want or until you run out of yarn. A nice rope-like structure of yarn should form at the back of your hand.
- To finish, take the bottom line of yarn on each finger and do as before so there is only one line in the front. Cut the yarn, leaving some extra length, and pull it through the loop on each finger.
-
Tie a knot at both ends.
Tips
- You can tighten the rope every few stitches by pulling on the end.
- The thumb string is optional but it helps in not untying the rope.
- It is much better to do this all at the one time, or you might lose the rhythm and forget where you were.
- You can place the loops on your fingers onto a pencil or straw to hold your place so you can come back to your weaving another time.
- Kids love to learn how to do this!
- You can make scarves, belts, bracelets, headbands, and more!
